To show that our coffee can stand up against serious international industry players, we decided to put Social Coffee's best foot forward -- in a global competition. So we entered our El Salvador Finca Alaska roast into the 2010 International Roasters Choice Competition at SCAA Expo on April 16-18 in Anaheim, California.
A panel of accredited Q-Grader coffee expert cupped (tasted), evaluated, and then ranked the coffee submitted by Roasters Guild members -- the leading coffee roasters from around the world. The panel selected their top 10 highest scoring entries. Those coffees were then showcased to the SCAA Expo attendees for tasting and voting.
In a blind taste test of over 8,000 attendees, with each allowed one vote, our El Salvador Finca Alaska was voted as the second favourite overall. Naturally, we're ecstatic. We knew that we knew coffee roasting, but we didn't know if the experts out there would appreciate it in such a rewarding fashion. Here is the SCAA Press Release and Event winners listing
